SUMMARY:

The Emergency Remote Teaching (ERE) model adopted by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) during the COVID-19 pandemic brought several challenges for undergraduates in the Health area, considering the essential face-to-face nature of many of the activities carried out during the educational process, including training focused on the principles of the Unified Health System (SUS), with an emphasis on Public Health, in accordance with the National Curriculum Guidelines (NCGs) of Brazil. The consequences brought by the ERE further exposed the obstacles that already existed in the health training of professionals, in particular nutritionists. The teaching of Nutrition in Brazil is already crossed by deficiencies in the articulation between biological and social knowledge, especially in relation to Public Health, which also suffers from the lack of delineation of a profile of competences and skills necessary for the nutritionist who works in the area. There is a gap in the literature on how nutritionists were trained in the field of Public Health during ERE. This survey becomes even more important within public universities, institutions that have a social responsibility with the community, teaching-service-community integration and alignment with training for the SUS. In view of this, this work, with a qualitative and exploratory approach, this case study proposes to investigate the formation in Public Health within the Nutrition course of an HEI in Rio Grande do Norte, during emergency remote teaching, using as reference the students, graduates and teachers who work in the area, bringing together their perceptions, anxieties, difficulties and hopes to contribute to the production of knowledge about the health training of nutritionists within Public Health. The research subjects are students, graduates and teachers of the undergraduate course in Nutrition at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (central campus) and at the Faculty of Health Sciences at Trairi (Santa Cruz campus). Data collection was carried out through specific semi-structured interviews for each group, and document analysis of the Pedagogical Projects of the Nutrition course at both HEIs, in addition to the syllabi of curricular components related to Public Health during the ERE. The data obtained was analyzed through Thematic Content Analysis. Documenting and understanding how the teaching-learning process took place during the ERE of Collective Health in undergraduate Nutrition courses at a public HEI in Rio Grande do Norte is one of the expected results of this research, thus making it possible to perceive the formation of Collective Health of state nutrition professionals. It is also sought to contribute to the reflection and reformulation of Public Health within the Nutrition graduation, through training in health increasingly directed to the National Curriculum Guidelines and to the performance in the SUS.
