ACTION RESEARCH TO OPTIMIZE THE QUALITY OF CLEANING IN CRITICAL HOSPITAL BED
Management for Continuous Quality Improvement; Hospital. Risk management; Hospital Infection.
The environment of health facilities can promote a sense of cleanliness and well-being, as well as being a host and source of contamination for patients. Among the most common complications in hospital environments, Health Care-Related Infections (HAI) are highlighted, making it necessary to control the spread of microorganisms. Thus, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for surface hygiene are important strategies to promote safe and effective practices. In this sense, the study aimed to develop and validate a SOP for the optimization of terminal cleaning of a critical hospital bed in a referral hospital in the North Zone of the state of Ceará. To this end, action research was developed in the period from 2022 to 2023 with professionals from the cleaning team of intensive care units and the management of the hygiene service, involving the steps of: integrative review for theoretical support of the SOP, discussion groups with key informants (service workers) to add the practical approach and build the SOP; training of the participating sample; implementation and monitoring through process and result indicators built with check list data used in cleaning process audits. Thus, it was intended to systematize safe critical bed hygiene managed practices, validated by those involved in the work process, enhancing chances of legitimacy, and institution of improvement cycles at the North Regional Hospital.
