RESUMO:

The growing scientific and technological advance has provoked changes in society. This context raises questions about the teaching of Geography, posing the challenge of thinking about how school content is being taught. Considering these assumptions, a research on the theme of research as a methodology of teaching in Basic Education in the scope of School Geography is under development. The empirical basis of this study are 04 classes of the 4th and 5th year of the Luiza Maria Ramos Barbosa and Dom Edgar Caricio de Gouveia schools, located in the Municipality of Bom Conselho. For Demo (1999), the research is possible to classify the research according to two principles: scientific and educational. The research carried out, chose as the focus of analysis the research as an educational principle, because it is a study about Geography in Basic Education. Within the scope of Geography education, the basic aspects of research as an educational principle can be linked to Geographical Education. Based on the premise that research as an educational principle is a relevant methodological procedure in Basic Education, research is being guided by the following questions: Is research a methodological procedure used in the teaching of Geography in Basic Education? What did the didactic sequences and methodological procedures used by the Basic Education teacher guide the students in the practice of the research? How does the teacher carry out the process of accompanying and guiding students in the course of this activity? How are the results obtained by the students when carrying out the research experience methodologically worked by the teacher? The general objective is to analyze the use of the research as a methodological procedure in the teaching of Geography in Basic Education in 04 classes of the 4th and 5th year of the Schools Luiza Maria Ramos Barbosa and Dom Edgar Caricio de Gouveia, located in the Municipality of Bom Conselho and the specific objectives are to identify the didactic sequences and the methodological procedures used by the teachers of the target groups of the investigation when orienting the students to the practice of the research; to examine the process of accompaniment and orientation of the students by the teacher in the course of this activity; to evaluate the methodology used by the teacher to work the results obtained by the students when carrying out the research experience and to elaborate a proposal of a didactic sequence for the teaching of Geography through the research
