SUMMARY:

The era of globalization and technology brings with it new challenges for education, requiring a change in the educational paradigm due to the cyberculture that permeates contemporaneity and enters classrooms. In this context, Digital Information and Communication Technologies (DICT) stand out, expanding forms of interaction, and this can qualify the teaching and learning process. Based on this assumption, the general aim of this study is to investigate how the use of Digital Educational Resources (DER) combined with Artificial Intelligence (AI) can give new meaning to the process of teaching reading in English. The specific objectives are: (i) to identify multiliteracy practices developed in the process of producing these DER; (ii) to map competencies and abilities activated during this process. To achieve these objectives, we have anchored this research theoretically in sociocultural literacy studies and Applied Linguistics and Education studies. Methodologically, this action research with a qualitative approach is based on transdisciplinary Applied Linguistics and its collaborators are a university professor and undergraduates who work as monitors in the English Reading Practices (ELP) curricular component. The digital platforms used to create the DER were Quizizz, Plickers, and Flippity. The research instruments used were questionnaires, interviews, and a logbook, supported by the digital platforms Typeform, Google Meet, and Google Docs. Three categories of analysis emerged from the data generated: (a) competences; (b) abilities; (c) multimodality. The preliminary results point to the pedagogical potential of EDR combined with AI in expanding multiliteracy practices. These practices include the use of AI to generate questions and summaries in English, as well as the use of digital platforms to create reading DER in English. In addition, the development of abilities relating to the competences "digital culture" and "scientific, critical and creative thinking" (Brasil, 2018) were observed. Among the abilities of the two competences mentioned are: (i) exploring different languages and digital tools; (ii) selecting texts in English from reliable sources in virtual environments; (iii) identifying themes and key points to be worked on in each EDR.
