KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE OF BASIC CARE PROFESSIONALS ABOUT SUICIDE

Suicide is a public health problem that affects families, communities and society as a whole. For the World Health Organization (WHO), suicide prevention must be considered a priority in public health. In this context, Primary Care, as the gateway to the Unified Health System (SUS), requires its professionals to be qualified to assist service users and to identify protective and suicide prevention factors, guaranteeing appropriate assistance and monitoring. The present study aims to analyze the knowledge and experience of Primary Care health professionals in the city of Parnamirim / RN on the phenomenon of suicide from their professional performance. It will be a qualitative research of the exploratory descriptive type. Data collection will take place through a semi-structured interview with health professionals who work in the Basic Health Units and are linked to the Family Health Strategies. It will have as a data collection instrument a semi-structured interview script containing questions about the sociodemographic and professional aspects and guiding questions about the investigated phenomenon, that is, the knowledge and experience of Primary Care professionals about suicide. The collection of information will start after submission and approval of the research project by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, according to Resolution 466/2012 of the National Health Council, and will end when there is theoretical saturation of the answers. The analysis will be done in the light of the thematic content analysis method. Among the results, the construction of a technical product of the type of practical guide for Primary Care professionals is envisaged, with guidance and updates on the management of situations involving the phenomenon of suicide.
