SUMMARY:

Families play an important role in building the child's communication, shaping their language context according to their lived experiences. However, with the diagnosis of hearing loss, in addition to the experience of sensory deprivation, family-child relationships can change and tend to reflect difficulties in both interaction and communication, which potentially leads to impairments for the acquisition and development of oral language, even after fitting the hearing devices. It is therefore important to study specific interventions, in addition to traditional therapies that may not be sufficient to meet the needs of families, whether relational or providing optimal linguistic input to their children. Previous studies with these subjects show positive effects with the use of tools such as videofeedback – which consists of rewatching more successful moments of interactions to modify behaviors and improve the family-child harmony in a system that feeds back. With the intensification of telepractice due the COVID-19 pandemic and, considering that there is still a gap in the offers of specialized services in auditory rehabilitation in remote or unstructured locations, the videofeedback tool is potential for remote speech therapy, but in the literature, there are no studies on this specific topic. Thus, the objective of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of the application of videofeedback with families of hard of hearing children remotely. It is, therefore, an intervention study with a convenience sample composed of 20 participants, randomized into control and experimental groups, from the universe of family’s children in rehabilitation of a hearing health center in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, after consent to participate in the research. In addition to collecting documentary data, for the characterization of families and children, interaction will be evaluated, through recording and video analysis by judges who are blinded to the study, in addition to the application of clinical protocols such as questionnaires to families and evaluation children's hearing and language. The descriptive analysis of the families' information needs, self-esteem, empowerment, and children's abilities will be carried out using tables and graphs. The inferential analysis with the comparison between the control and experimental groups through the JT Test (Jacobson, Truax, 1991), which allows the analysis of the reliable index of change and clinical significance. As a result, it is expected that this study can contribute to the advancement of tools for telepractice in the children's auditory rehabilitation.
