SUMMARY:

Introduction: Street running is an exercise modality that has gained popularity in recent years, with a large increase in the number of participants in recreational running. Despite the physical benefits promoted by this modality, carrying out high-volume and intense activities to which these people have been submitted, in order to increase their performance, can cause an imbalance between mechanical stress and the necessary rest, which can culminate in the increase of injuries. In this context, it is necessary to study mechanisms that can accelerate the muscle recovery process, reducing this imbalance. Percussive massage appears as a possibility to optimize the effects of massage with the muscular effects of vibration. Objectives: To analyze the effects of percussive massage on recovery after a 10km run. Methods: This is a blinded, randomized, controlled clinical trial that compares two intervention groups; the experimental group, which will be performed percussive massage (GMP) and the control group, in which therapeutic massage (GMT) of the “effleurage” type will be performed. Participants will be evaluated in 6 moments: at baseline (AV1), before the race (AV2), immediately after the 10km race (AV3), immediately after the intervention (AV4), 24 hours after the intervention (AV5) and 48 hours after the intervention. Primary outcome: perception of pain and muscle fatigue. Secondary outcomes: Knee extensor isokinetic performance; potency; pressure pain threshold (PPT); recovery perception. 40 runners, male and female, from Natal-RN and metropolitan area will be recruited. The disclosure will be made through social networks, racing groups and in person. The races will always take place on weekends, on the UFRN track, and will be monitored by a researcher. All researchers were previously trained.
