BIG AREA: Ciências da Saúde
AREA: Fisioterapia e Terapia Ocupacional
SUMMARY:

Introduction: During respiratory infections, the inflammatory response of the body results in increased production and accumulation of mucus in the respiratory airways. In order to remove accumulated secretions, conventional and non-conventional techniques have been used. However, new techniques have emerged over time, such as high-frequency chest wall oscillation therapy. It is still an expensive technology and difficult to access, however, we have the possibility of using it through the Brazilian equipment that has been developed in a vest and kangaroo format – the Expector®. Objective: This work aims to test the feasibility of Expector® in a population of infants to assess their comfort and acceptance. Methodology: The study will have a sample of 30 participants, aged between 3 and 6 months, divided into 3 groups (2 experimental and one control). The experimental groups will use the Expector®, kangaroo version, with different configurations and the control group will remain in the deactivated equipment. Participants will be evaluated before, during and after their use. Among the evaluated outcomes will be heart and respiratory rate, peripheral oxygen saturation, lung auscultation, presence of pain, infant sleep/wake status and parental satisfaction. Partial results: 5 infants were evaluated, with an average age of 4 months, until the present moment. An increase in CHIPPS was noted mainly during the reassessment and only one infant was asleep during part of the intervention. One of the infants presented regurgitation during the intervention. Data collection is still going on and the results will be released in the next version.
