SUMMARY:

Pregnancy is a period in which women undergo physiological, psychological and bodily adaptations, which can cause discomfort, pain, circulatory disorders, mood changes, postpartum, in addition to the possibility of repercussions on health in the short, medium and long term, such as perineal pain, dyspareunia, urinary and fecal incontinence, which can negatively interfere with its functionality. The aim of this study was to verify which obstetric factors are related to decreased functionality in pregnant women. Analytical, cross-sectional and quantitative study, carried out between August 2018 and April 2020 with pregnant women from northeastern Brazil. Data were collected at Basic Health Units, at the Faculty of Health Sciences of Trairi, Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (FACISA/UFRN) and through the Google Meet platform. Pregnant women with a single fetus and who understood the questions were included in the study. Those who refused to answer a question or had the interview interrupted were excluded. Approved by the Ethics and Research Committee of FACISA under opinion number 2.974.947 and CAAE: 00466818.4.0000.5568. All participants were informed about the risks and benefits of the research and signed an informed consent form (FICF). An evaluation form authored by the project participants was used to obtain sociodemographic data, health conditions, life habits and gynecological and obstetrical data. Functioning and disability were measured using the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS 2.0). Sample characterization and data presentation was used descriptive statistics. After applying the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, the Spearman correlation test was applied to identify the existence of a relationship between obstetric variables and functionality and disability. These analyzes were performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0 software. The sample power was calculated on the openepi.com website, obtaining a power of 100%. A confidence interval (CI) of 95% and a significance level of 5% (p<0.05) were adopted. 140 pregnant women participated in this study, with a median age of 27.0 (22.0-32.0) years and median years of schooling of 11 (8.0-13.0) years. Most had a partner (84.9%), were not white (77.1%), had a family income of up to two minimum wages (70.7%), 99.3% denied being smokers, 81.3% denied being alcoholics, 73.5% did not present edema and 85.6% did not practice any type of physical activity, median gestational age (GA) was 19.70 (15.0-26.0) weeks, and a median of 2 .0 (1.0-3.0) pregnancies. 52.9% were nulliparous, 77.9% never had an abortion. We found that there is a decrease in the functionality of pregnant women in the self-care domains in relation to gestational age (p=0.007); interpersonal relationships with number of pregnancies (p=0.014) and number of deliveries (p=0.025); and in the domain of school/work activities in relation to the number of pregnancies (p=0.047) and number of abortions (p=0.007).
