RESUMO:

The hypothalamus is a central nervous system (CNS) region,  responsible for maintaining homeostasis and is composed of several nuclei. Paraventricular nucleus (NPV) is a hypothalamic nucleus, which is one of the centers responsible for the autonomic and endocrine regulation of the organism. NPV is an important pre-autonomic center that assists in the regulation of the sympathetic nervous system, and can act in the regulation of several systems, including the cardiovascular system. Changes in this nucleus may be related to cardiovascular complications, such as hypertension and heart failure. Therefore, with aging, there may be changes in NPV that can trigger cardiac changes in the elderly. Thus, we analyzed the NPV of Brazilian rodent cutias (Dasyprocta agouti) in different ages in order to observe the neuronal dynamics in the nucleus during the postnatal development. For this, 3D morphoquantitative analysis (stereological analysis) of the NPV was performed, based on Cavalieri’s principle, together with the volume density (Vv) analysis of the nucleus neurons based on Delesse’s principle. These analyzes were performed in 16 male cutias, divided into four age groups: G1- Neonate (n = 4); G2- Young (n = 4); G3- Adult (n = 4) and G5-Senile (n = 4). Preliminary stereological analysis showed that the NPV of the youngs animals, when compared to the neonate, shows a 57% increase in the total volume of the nucleus. Also, when compared to these age groups, an increase in the total volume occupied by the neurons in the NPV of 85% in the total nucleus volume occupied by neurons is observed. Therefore, our preliminary conclusions point out that NPV presents a hypertrophy of the nucleus associated with a hypertrophy or neuronal hyperplasia as compared to the neonates with the young, but no alterations were observed when compared to young adults.
