In 2016, there was a significant increase in sickness due to chikungunya fever in Brazil, notably in the Northeast region, one of the highlights being the state of Rio Grande do Norte, with an incidence rate almost six times higher than national and 37 confirmed deaths. In this sense, one of the greatest challenges in the treatment of Chikungunya fever is the possibility of chronification, not yet being well understood all the impacts and characteristics of this clinical picture. Thus, the objective of the present study is to evaluate the impact of chikungunya fever chronicity on the quality of life and functionality of people affected by the disease. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive and comparative study with a quantitative approach, to be conducted through a telephone survey with the members of the Chikungunya (CHIK) group and face-to-face interviews with the control group (CONT). The CHIK group was composed of 33 adults living in the city of Natal who had become ill with fever of chikungunya in the year 2016. The identification of these individuals was made based on the evaluation of the information on notified and confirmed cases made available by the Nucleus of Epidemiological Surveillance of the Center of Control of Zoonoses (CCZ) of Natal-RN between January and February of 2018. The CONT group consisted of 33 adults matched by sex and age with members of the CHIK group, with no history of diagnosis and / or suspected illness by chikungunya, recruited by non-probabilistic sampling, for convenience, in the cities of Rio Grande do Norte between June and July 2018. The information from the CHIK group was collected from the Individual Notification Form and from interview in which the HAQ-20 and SF-12 questionnaires were applied and investigated current symptoms and labor aspects. From these data, the individuals with the chronic form of the disease, among the members of the CHIK group, were identified. To obtain the information of the CONT group, a face-to-face interview was conducted, with the application of the HAQ-20 and SF-12 instruments.
