SUMMARY:

The analysis of computational models allows a better understanding of structures
and natural phenomena. However, variables and states are always changing,
revealing the problem of the need for constant adaptation of these models to real
situations. In this work, we evaluate evolutionary programming as a solution to
this problem, both in models at the genetic level, through the study of hypotheses
about the evolutionary process of a bacterium, as well as populational level,
adapting an infection model in a population to real data. In the first case, we use
an artificial gene regulatory network to simulate a bacteria population and analyze
how different network growth strategies affect the evolution of the population. In
the second case, we adapted a COVID-19 infection model to the epidemiological
data, developing a pipeline that allows the model to be adapted whenever
parameters are changed. We conclude that evolutionary programming is a
solution for the analysis of biological models that allows not only the adaptation of
a model to real data, but also a better understanding of the evolutionary process
of its biological bases.
