The Apicomplexa group comprises thousands of protozoa species, some of them of medical importance . The species Toxoplasma gondii and Cryptosporidium spp. gain prominence by infecting millions of people around the world. Therefore, the identification and genotyping of these parasites is fundamental and may allow the correlation with the virulence characteristics of the parasite. The development of computational strategies in bioinformatics is fundamental for genotyping and typing of parasites, since traditional techniques are often not feasible and rely on laborious infrastructure and reagents. Data of this type also contribute to epidemiological studies, tracing origins of outbreaks, to the control of dispersion of pathogens, among other purposes. In the first stage of this work, T. gondii virulence factors were selected and their sequences were obtained from the ToxoDB database. The sequences of the strains that were not annotated in ToxoDB were obtained through BLAST using the ME49 strain sequence as query. Subsequently, the sequences of each gene were aligned using the mafft algorithm. With the result of the alignment, a principal component analysis (PCA) was done to group the similar sequences. However, given the complexity of our dataset, we have not yet been able to identify markers that enable the typing of protozoa under study.
