SUMMARY:

The occurrence of difficulties in the learning of the Exact and Natural Sciences by many students is a common and even justifiable fact, given that several theories, concepts, nomenclatures and mathematical formalism addressed in the study of many areas of these sciences are not part of your daily experiences. In this context, the structuring concept is of paramount importance for understanding various everyday phenomena. Therefore some concepts such as Chemical Element and Chemical Periodicity are starting points for understanding other subjects in the natural sciences. From this reflection, this work proposes a sequence of activities with video, card game, educational application, lectures and questionnaires, related to the subjects of Chemical Elements and Chemical Periodicity. The research has a qualitative approach and was developed with 35 students of the first grade "A" of the high school, morning shift, of the State School Calpúrnia Caldas de Amorim, located in the city of Caicó / RN. As a data collection instrument a survey questionnaire was used to analyze students' previous knowledge about chemical elements. As an initial analysis of the survey questionnaire, 28.57% defined the chemical element as being an element of the periodic table, 31.42% associated the nature, 11.42% the atomic nature and 20% could not define, implying state that most students do not understand the definition of chemical element. It was also observed that 2.85% of the students do not know where the elements are and 97.15% said they can find it in nature, in laboratories, in metals and in the periodic table. It is found that students can identify the existence of chemical elements in various contexts. It is significant to emphasize that the proposed sequences of activities can achieve the objectives of making the students protagonists of teaching and learning and understand the concepts of Chemical Elements and Chemical Periodicity.
