SUMMARY:

Today the organizations ability to innovate is crucial and they need to use their material, technological, financial and human resources in the best possible way. Public libraries do not escape this reality, social and technological changes influence the needs of the subjects, with this, they need to innovate in their products and services to meet and maintain their clientele. In the light of the above, our study has as a general objective: to identify the contribution of serendipity and creativity to the process of innovation of products and services. For this, we will follow the following methodological path: we start data collection with a bibliographic research, then we will conduct a structured interview with the librarian who is the manager of the public library of the Parque da Cidade to understand the scenario and diagnose the resources of the information unit and we will apply a journal by which the said professional will record her serendipity experiences for a period of thirty days, all collected data will be interpreted under an inductive approach and we will use two methods of procedures, monographic and structuralist. The initial results indicate that creativity and serendipity are the engines of innovation, mechanisms that are related in the process of designing products and services. Creativity drives innovation through the generation of ideas, serendipity represents the ability of individuals to make unexpected connections, leading to unexpected discoveries, so it is crucial to creative insight. It is concluded that serendipity and creativity should be considered and encouraged in the organizational context so that innovation is a continuous process, rather than a sporadic manifestation. To innovate, managers need to manage, develop and use the knowledge, skills and skills of their organization's human resources, promote a climate and organizational culture favorable to the creative process and, therefore, innovation.
