SUMMARY:

The management of information in public organizations must be directed to serving the collective interest of society, with the objective of fulfilling the legal attributions. In this sense, for the management of the personal information of public servants, primarily practiced by people management, the rights of access to information and the inviolability to privacy must be ensured, observing its general characteristics as public information and its restrictions. Thus, the general objective of this research is to audit based on risk the management of personal information carried out at the Personnel Administration Directorate (DAP) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). This objective is operationalized through the following specific objectives: a) to analyze the legislation and legal norms of UFRN pertinent to the management of personal information; b) identify the risks associated with the management of DAP / UFRN's personal information; and c) to propose recommendations that contribute to the improvement of the management of personal information at DAP / UFRN based on risk. To this end, the intelligence audit method proposed by Carvalho (2010) will be used, with a correlated approach with the internal governmental audit based on risk, as an audit proposal for the management of the personal information of employees and pensioners, under the custody of DAP, through the identification of the risks associated with the administrative processes of retirement and pension due to death, making it possible to focus on more significant auditable activities. Thus, the proposed study will be developed as a research of an applied nature, with descriptive purpose and qualitative approach, having as research strategy, action research, which provides joint actions between researcher and participants, based on data collection through documentary research, participant observation, interview and focus group, and data analysis using basic descriptive statistics and content analysis. The expected results are the assessment of conformity and associated risks, with the proposal of necessary recommendations to improve management, through the establishment of guidelines as a way of complying with the law, minimizing threats and facilitating decision-making by public agents, contributing to increased effectiveness and efficiency.
