RESUMO:

It addresses the fact that in the Knowledge Society it has become necessary for organizations to aggregate the value of the information circulating within their field. By doing so, information can become knowledge, which is a valuable resource that promotes the development of individuals and in turn benefits within the organization. It emphasizes that one of the ways to reach this level is to use the strategy called Knowledge Management (KM). There are tools and practices that facilitate KM within knowledge organizations. It indicates that the KM is an important strategy in the organizational scope, and in turn within the university libraries. That is why the need for this type of management in this type of organization is verified. In this way, it shows the need for this type of management within the central library of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, called the Central Library Zila Mamede (BCZM), since after previous analysis in the documents available at the BCZM electronic address it was verified that the referred library does not have any document that contemplates a formally institutionalized KM policy (or something similar). Faced with this, it is sought to answer the following question of research: What tools and practices of KM can be applied in BCZM? In this way, the overall objective of this research will be to propose a portfolio of KM tools and practices for BCZM. For this purpose, the following specific objectives were adopted: a) To verify the understanding of BCZM's manager regarding KM; b) Identify KM practices and tools adopted at BCZM; c) Describe the use of KM practices and tools identified in BCZM; and d) Identify KM tools and practices for portfolio composition for BCZM. To reach the objectives, the study will be descriptive in nature, with a qualitative and quantitative approach. The instruments chosen to achieve the mentioned objectives include an interview (qualitative approach), which will be directed to the BCZM manager and the application of a questionnaire (quantitative approach), which will be directed to the effective servers of the library. For the interview, the data analysis will be through Content Analysis. Regarding the analysis of the questionnaire data, it will be performed through simple descriptive statistical analysis. The result of the study will contribute to the construction of a proposal of a portfolio of Knowledge Management tools and practices for that Information Unit (IU).
