RESUMO:

The information society has resulted in numerous changes in habits and use of
information, linked to this paradigm changes, the advent of the internet and
technological innovations bring implications in the process of organization, access and
use of information also impacting the scope of information management. These
changes reach also the libraries, as they need to hone their activities and services. In
this scenario is the Central Library Zila Maclean (BCZM), information unit at the Federal
University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). Thus, this research aims to support the
General Information section and reference of the BCZM through the proposition of a
new service model for Standardization, in order to meet this goal, we intend to, while
specific objectives: identify the good practice of reference Service (SR) in university
libraries; analyze the SR of the Brazilian University libraries that provides virtual
service; analyze the informational behavior of users in relation to the signpost service
normalization of BCZM based on the informational behavior by Ellis. The academic
and scientific justification focus on the prospect of checking the contributions of
information management, research of professional master's, for information and
reference service, contributing to the behavioral studies information in the field of
information science. Methodology the research will be applied character in nature, with
a qualitative approach and four-pole method. The universe of research will be public
university libraries in Brazil, with composite sample libraries with a virtual information
and service by users using the Reference and Information Service (CRS) of BCZM.
The instrument chosen to assess the information units will be SIR a script, while the
graduate students of the BCZM/UFRN will be applied a structured questionnaire. Then
will be gathered, assessed and interpreted all the collected data using content analysis
to be made suggestions and referrals to the delineation of a new service model for
standardization.
