RESUMO:

The aim is to analyze the information management at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), while applying an information policy, based on an information system, proposing subsidies for the implementation of a policy, in accordance with the Law of Access to Information (LAI). Analyzing the problem of information management within public institutions, the situation is very alarming and has been seriously addressed by Brazilian institutions. The lack of studies proving the effectiveness or otherwise of LAI and the possible lack of information management policies in public organizations are considered. This research takes place in a qualitative perspective, using the exploratory and descriptive case study strategy; As for the technical procedures, it is also a bibliographical research, documentary and participant research. The research subjects will be the managers directly involved with the information management in the institution, the main managers of the study area and the servers that perform the activities directly in the surveyed units. Data collection will be carried out in early 2017, through semi-structured interviews and application of a questionnaire. The research will take place at UFRN, a university institution of public character, of higher education, organized as a special regime autarchy, indirect administration, linked to the Ministry of Education, with headquarters and forum in the city of Natal, capital of the State of Large northern river. It is hoped that this study may arouse the institution's interest in fostering the discussion of these policies, offering suggestions to managers through a proposal to implement a policy, aiming to obtain improvements in the information management process in the institution, as well as Contribute to broadening the debate, and that new studies can be done on the subject, so important for any organization today.
