SUMMARY:

Education faces a challenging situation in which it is required to reconfigure and update the current model so it could offer a more equitable and high-quality education. To offer tools that help teachers to rethink their ways of teaching based on their students' social practices is key to enhance education systems with diversified ways of teaching. Design as a systematic problem-solving process is a tool to create these new experiences. The main goal of the research is to apply participatory-based design in education. Participatory tradition consists in a way to develop new solutions. It must adopt collaborative workshops with cross-functional teams. The generative toolkit must be based on workshops adopted in Participatory Design, Codesign, Design Thinking, Design Sprint and/or Understanding by Design. The Case Study will be in an foreign language school which offers language courses. The toolkit will be developed based on the first interview. Then, the workshops will be tested based on how successful they were to create new educational services. Subsequently, the participants will be interviewed. To be successful, the activities must generate new solutions; the participants must be able to participate, reflect and decide which solution is the best; and the solution must be viable for the school. By the end of the test, a Canvas business model will be written with the Items as it follows. Value Propositions, Customer Segments and Relationships, Channels, key activities, resources and partners, cost structure and revenue streams. Both the value proposition and the customer segments will be based on the workshops outputs and the researcher’s observation. The workshops are expected to be offered as a service to language schools. The cost structure will be as low as possible and it should make a bootstrapping fundraising strategy possible. To regard the business model as successful the workshops must generate demand and be a company’s revenue source.
