SUMMARY:

Introduction: Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are one of the most frequent adverse events in services that particularly affect patients in intensive care, impacting patient safety and quality of care. Therefore, it is imperative to institute control measures, such as, for example, the implementation of infection prevention protocols, shown by studies to be capable of reducing these infections by 70%. Thus, based on ANVISA's National Assessment of Patient Safety Practices, which showed low adherence to the implementation of these protocols in Hospitals with ICU beds in the SESAP/RN own network, this project will aim to: improve the implementation of these protocols, specifically, those for the prevention of primary bloodstream infection (IPCS) associated with the use of a central venous catheter (CVC) and the prevention of pneumonia associated with the use of mechanical ventilation (VAP. Methodology: The present study is an Action Research , with a before and after evaluative design, based on the implementation of a Quality Improvement Cycle carried out at the State Commission for Hospital Infection Control - CECIH/RN, aiming to improve the implementation of infection prevention protocols in the 14 hospitals with beds of the ICU of SESAP's own network. The analysis of criteria and indicators constructed will be carried out based on an adapted version of the Standards for Quality Improvement Reporting Excellence 2.0 (SQUIRE) guidelines. The study will take place in six methodological stages: Identification and prioritization of the quality problem; Analysis of the causes of the problem; Preparation of quality assessment criteria; Initial assessment of criteria compliance; Improvement intervention aimed at the most problematic criteria; Reassessment of the quality level to verify the effectiveness of the implemented intervention. Expected results: The research hopes to contribute to improving the quality of the implementation of infection prevention protocols in Hospitals within the SESAP/RN network by carrying out interventions after analyzing the causes. In addition to enabling the State of Rio Grande do Norte to improve its performance against the ANVISA National Assessment of Patient Safety Practices scenario.
