BIG AREA: Ciências da Saúde
AREA: Saúde Coletiva
SUMMARY:

Between 1990 and 2015 there was a 44% reduction in maternal mortality, but with the advent of COVID-19 there was a regression of these indicators in the 20-year Latin American and Caribbean region. Currently it is established as a goal of the Sustainable Development Goals – SDGs, the global reduction of maternal mortality to less than 70 per 100,000 live births by 2030, because when a woman dies brings negative impacts to her family, community and society and to neonatal mortality 12 per 1,000 live births. (PAHO, 2023). WHO, thinking of ways to put evidence-based health actions into practice, has developed the Checklist for Safe Childbirth (CSC) (WHO, 2017). Objective: to evaluate the CSC effects of the WHO on childbirth care in a high-risk maternity hospital in Northeast Brazil. The indicators that will be evaluated will be those of good practices, of adverse events in the mother and newborn and the indicators composed of adverse events. For data collection, the Qualiparto software developed by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) will be used with resources from the QualiSaúde research group and the Digital Metropolis Institute to help monitor the quality of delivery and birth care (SOUSA, 2020). Results: Data were collected from 344 deliveries from December 2022 to May 2023.  The average percentage of compliance with good practices was 57.3%, with good maternal practice with the best level of compliance with oxytocin administration 87.5% and neonatal practice with a higher percentage of vitamin K administration prior to the implementation of CSC, while the rate of adverse outcomes was 9.3%, with the most frequent neonatal and maternal adverse events being hospitalization in the intensive care unit.
