SUMMARY:

Introduction: Patient safety is directly associated with quality in health services (WHO, 2009). In the context of Emergency Care Units (UPA) there is a gap in the implementation of the safety protocols recommended by the PNSP, including the one for falls, which is punctual, fragmented and even non-existent in this scenario (PARREIRA, 2021). Falls in patients cause damage in 30% to 50% of cases, and 6% to 44% of these patients suffer damage of a serious nature, such as fractures, subdural hematomas and bleeding, which can lead to death or contribute to increase the time of recovery. permanence in health units and care costs.

Objective: The objective of this work is to establish a differentiated care to reduce the occurrence of falls in patients in the Emergency Care Unit.

Methodology: This is an experimental, before-and-after study, with a concurrent time series and with a quantitative-qualitative approach, taking place at the Messejana Emergency Care Unit, located in the city of Fortaleza, in the state of Ceará. Some quality tools were used in order to improve patient safety. The proposal is that 20 observations are made monthly, on axis two of the UPA, carried out by professionals directed to this activity.

Preliminary results: For the preliminary analysis of the data, the records of patient care were evaluated, under observation on axis two of the unit, according to the standard form. In the period of March and April 2022, in March 61% of compliance and April 65% of compliance with the requirements of the walk, with the application of the fall scale being the greatest weakness. With the identification of improvement opportunities, it was established that interventions will be carried out, to be developed by the unit's falls team, to carry out improvement cycles to prevent falls in the UPA.

Final considerations: In view of the change tests and interventions already carried out in the unit, we observed the implementation of an improvement team for the fall target, which was relevant for the beginning of the discussion of the systematics for the application of the Morse scale, as well as supporters and multipliers of prevention actions. A reference in continuing education with the team, it made a difference in supporting the dissemination of good practices and new routines to be established. Therefore, it is essential to engage managers and the assistance team in recognizing this demand and commitment to improving the unit's safety processes, being a fundamental part of the execution and monitoring of the unit's improvement processes. The monthly safety walks carried out at the unit must be resumed to monitor the rate of compliance with the safety walk requirements of the fall protocol and identify opportunities for improvement to apply new change tests when necessary and consequently carry out improvement cycles to prevent falls on the unit.
