QUALITY IMPROVEMENT IN THE MEDICATION PROCESS IN A EMERGENCY MOBILE PRE-HOSPITAL CARE SERVICE

Introduction: The medication process is complex, multidisciplinary and carried out in
several stages, to the point that errors in its execution emerge as one of the most common
types of incidents in health services. Mobile pre-hospital care is carried out in an environment
in which care is provided in different scenarios, with a reduced action time, in a way that
becomes potentially dangerous and liable to cause damage to patients during care, especially
in the context that involves the medication process. Thus, the performance of quality
management activities, such as improvement cycles, are crucial for better results in health
care. Objective: To develop a quality improvement cycle in the medication process in an
emergency mobile pre-hospital care service and measure the effect of the interventions
performed. Methodology: This is a quasi-experimental before-and-after study, without a
control group, with a quantitative approach, carried out through the application of a quality
improvement cycle in a mobile pre-hospital emergency care service. Results: The initial
assessment of the quality of prescription and drug registration proved to be a real problem for
the service, obtaining low levels of compliance in most of the analyzed criteria. Final
considerations: It is hoped that this research will contribute to promoting patient safety and
better quality in health care.
