SUMMARY:

INTRODUCTION: Maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality are mostly preventable with quality and safe care. Measures are needed to ensure the improvement of the quality of care during childbirth.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to increase adherence to good practices in childbirth in public maternity hospitals in the State of Rio Grande do Norte (RN).

METHOD: This is a quasi-experimental study of intervention and time series, applied in three public maternity hospitals in RN. With baseline measurement, interventions and post intervention monitoring with biweekly measurements. Will be analyzed, retrospectively, 1,080 birth records, during 12 successive biweekly measurements, in the years 2021 and 2022 using the QualiParto platform. Variables of interest to the study include simple indicators, composite indicators of good practices and adverse events, and adherence to the WHO LVPS. Descriptive analysis will be with absolute and relative frequencies of simple indicators and composed of good practices and adverse events and time series analysis through run charts, considering p value <0.05 and 95% confidence interval. Run charts will be used to present the temporal evolution of the indicators.

PRELIMINARY RESULTS: Multiple factors were identified that contribute to the low occurrence of good practices, mostly linked to the work process and continuing education. Items common to the three services can be observed: little encouragement to good practices, non-institutionalized partograph, non-institutionalized skin-to-skin contact, non-institutionalized timely clamping, lack of training in good practices, absence of protocols, among others.
