SUMMARY:

Introduction: Maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality is still considered a global public health problem. The qualification of childbirth care is essential for the reduction of these indicators. One of the means used to standardize and promote good practices is through the Safe Childbirth Checklist, benefiting the binomial from admission to hospital discharge. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of implementing a cycle of improvement in compliance with the completion of the Safe Childbirth Checklist at Hospital Universitário Ana Bezerra. Methodology: This is a quasi-experimental study of the before-after type, without a control group, with a quantitative approach, using an internal quality improvement cycle that seeks to assess the level of quality in adherence to the completion of the Checklist for the Safe delivery. Furthermore, calculating indicators of good practices and adverse events. Results: The opportunity for improvement was identified through the application of the Nominal Group Technique and Prioritization Matrix, during activities for the preparation of the Practical Work of the Professional Master's Degree in Quality Management in Health Services. This being the alignment of processes and standardization of conduct of the multidisciplinary teams. The Safe Childbirth Checklist was identified as an ideal tool to act on the identified improvement opportunity. Based on this choice, the initial assessment of the level of quality will be made based on adherence to filling out, quantifying the number of compliances for each quality criterion, overall adherence to the other Safe Childbirth Checklist items, good practices and adverse events. From then on, there will be the phase of defining intervention proposals, intervention to improve quality and reassess the quality level, with the calculation of the improvement achieved, referring to the study design and phases. Conclusions: This cycle of improvement intends to contribute with that service in the search for the sustainability of actions related to Safe Childbirth Checklist and that serve to other hospitals as an inspiration for greater involvement in the proposed improvement cycles.
