THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SELF-CONTROL AND SAVINGS BEHAVIOR
Self-control; Savings; Saving Behavior; Survey of Consumer Finances; Systematic review.
This research project aims to investigate the relationship between self-control and savings behavior among American families, using the Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF) dataset from 2019, which is representative of household finances and financial consumption patterns of American families. The research will be divided into two studies: the first is a systematic literature review from 2002 to 2022, using the Scopus and Web of Sciences platforms, to update the state of the art on the topic. The second study is a quantitative investigation that uses a logistic model to infer how self-control affects savings behavior of families. The dependent variable is binary (savings/no savings). It is expected that the results of this study will confirm the evidence of the systematic review, contributing to updating the scientific knowledge on the topic and using more recent data.
