TITLE:

EVALUATION AND TRAINING OF UFRN INTERNSHIP MEDICAL STUDENTS IN OROTRACHEAL INTUBATION TECHNIQUE

KEY WORDS:

Orotracheal intubation; Practical training; Anesthesiology

PAGES: 46
BIG AREA: Ciências da Saúde
AREA: Medicina
SUMMARY:

Orotracheal intubation (OTI) is characterized by an invasive procedure, exclusive to the medical professional, in which a cannula is introduced into the trachea with the main objective of guaranteeing a definitive airway. With the emergence of the latest COVID-19 pandemic, concern about adequate mastery of the technique by health professionals, especially among graduates (recent graduates) became more evident. The present project aims to carry out a preliminary assessment of the knowledge of students who are in the UFRN medical course internship regarding the orotracheal intubation procedure, focusing on the practical part, followed by theoretical-practical training. At the end of the internship, these students will be subjected to a new assessment, with data comparison. It was decided to carry out a qualitative-quantitative research, in which students in the tenth period of the UFRN medical course were subjected to the application of a practical station with a checklist on IOT in a simulated environment, along with a short scale questionnaire Likert. The results of this study highlight the relevance of practical training in the orotracheal intubation (OTI) technique and its direct influence on learning. Before training, a significant portion of students demonstrated insufficient preparation, and 59.4% of them perceived training in IOT techniques as inadequate. Before training, a significant portion of students demonstrated insufficient preparation, and 59.4% of them perceived training in IOT techniques as inadequate. However, after training, a substantial improvement in student performance was observed. Furthermore, it is inferred that there was a significant change in the pre- and post-test responses in relation to the success in carrying out the IOT among students. Practical instruction in the orotracheal intubation (OTI) technique proves to be fundamental for the training of medical interns. The use of methodological approaches and simulators resulted in a notable increase in students' competence and self-confidence after the intervention.ver, after training, a substantial improvement in student performance was observed.
