SUMMARY:

Performing a suprapubic cystostomy should be a basic competence of every urologist and general surgeon. It is necessary that physicians in training have access to adequate training for learning the surgical technique. Simulation training emerges as a safe, risk-free alternative for patients and resident physicians. We propose the creation of a realistic simulator for the training of suprapubic cystostomy and its face and content validation by urologists. The procedure was performed in the simulator by 21 urologists and a semi-structured questionnaire. The internal consistency of the questionnaire was assessed by Cronbach's alpha. Anatomical realism and the usefulness of the simulator as a teaching and training tool were evaluated. Data analysis showed a good evaluation of the simulator, both in terms of anatomical realism and utility. The developed simulator is important for the practical teaching of puncture cystostomy, and can be incorporated into the training curricula of resident physicians, especially in general surgery and urology.
