SUMMARY:

INTRODUCTION: The curricular structure of the medical course has been modified in recent years and the fragmented teaching model is giving space to the integration of content. An example of this change has been observed in the way of including the discipline of Pathology in the curricula, with the substitution of the traditional discipline being observed for the integration of content with related clinical areas. For the teaching of glomerular diseases, knowledge of pathology is fundamental for the therapeutic and prognostic determination, this content being part of the Nephrology Curriculum Matrix. However, not all training hospitals have the technical and personal apparatus available to enable the presentation of these images to resident physicians. Strategies that include hybrid teaching (face-to-face and e-learning) can be used in an innovative way in medical teaching, aiming to fill gaps in learning in the course of Medicine and Medical Residency. OBJECTIVES: The objective of this project is to develop an innovative teaching platform, with characteristics favorable to use during the Medical Residency period, in which residents can be introduced to the content of Renal Pathology. Other objectives related to the project are: to evaluate how the resident physicians initially react to the way of teaching, as well as to know what are the points to be improved on the platform from the student's point of view. METHODOLOGY: The realization of an interinstitutional partnership favored the development of the online teaching platform, NefroAtlas. A group of preceptor physicians from the Nephrology Medical Residency of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) and from the Pathology of the Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA) were responsible for the elaboration of the textual content, review, choice of images and didactic elaboration of two main themes. The chosen themes (normal kidney and lupus nephritis) were related to their significance for the Medical Residency Programs (PRM) of Hospital Universitário Onofre Lopes (HUOL / UFRN). The platform was developed and published by a team of students from the Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology at UFRN, guided by a professor at the Instituto Metrópole Digital (UFRN). After being introduced to NefroAtlas, 8 medical residents active in HUOL PRM had fifteen days to include study routines with the platform during their activities at the Residence. The evaluation of the teaching-learning process was carried out through a qualitative research of exploratory case studies, through a focus group. The guiding question of the focus group was: "How would you describe your learning experience with NefroAtlas?" Thematic analysis was performed by reading the transcribed material of the group's recordings. The project was approved by the Ethics and Research Committee of HUOL. RESULTS: The teaching platform was developed and has three main parts: Modules, Tests and Reports. The Modules contemplate: two main themes, clinical cases, explanatory texts and images of renal pathology highlighted didactically. Four tests were associated, with the purpose of self-assessment of the student. And the Reports are being improved to provide the professor with information regarding the students' academic performance. The project was presented at scientific congresses in the area of Technology and Information and Nephrology, in the form of posters. A scientific article was developed for publication in a medical education magazine, which included the results of the thematic analysis carried out in the qualitative research. CONCLUSIONS: Teaching platforms similar to NefroAtlas can be inserted to include learning opportunities complementary to the fields of practice of Medical Residency. The inclusion of resident productions can favor the expansion of the platform's content and guide teacher training in the area. Assessment methods for the acquisition of knowledge must still be included in the teaching strategy. The formation of interinstitutional partnerships, such as those developed in the project, is important for the successful development of the platform. Hybrid teaching can be an active method to be developed in undergraduate courses, as long as it is aligned with the discipline's pedagogical project.
