SUMMARY:

Introduction: The preceptor has an extremely important role in the training of residents, because he teaches in-service training. However, in general there are no pedagogical training experiences. Health preceptorship is a pedagogical practice that takes place in the work environment conducted by healthcare professionals, whether teaching or not, where the vast majority of them act intuitively, reproducing their own training, confusing information transmission with teaching. The training of preceptors with the competence to transmit knowledge effectively and in a short period of time has been a challenge, especially in the Urgency and Emergency sectors. Objective: To train preceptors who work in the urgency of Maternidade Escola Januário Cicco (MEJC) with the One Minute Preceptor (OMP) method and thereby contribute to an improvement in the training of residents, making them an active subject in their learning process. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, carried out with preceptors and doctors resident in Gynecology and Obstetrics at the MEJC. Three stages were carried out: pre-intervention questionnaire with residents, planning and execution of a pedagogical training course for the preceptors involving an expository class dialogued about OMP and ending with simulations. After one month, residents answered another questionnaire about the impacts of the method. Results: In the teaching assessment of pre-intervention residents, the results showed that 91.7% agree that there are differences in the teaching methodology between preceptors. After the training, all preceptors agreed that the method involves the student in the decision-making process and that they would apply the method in their on-call routine. The post-intervention results showed that 95.8% agree that OMP is more attractive than traditional teaching methods. There was, for 70.9% of residents, a perception of improvement in learning and, in addition, there was a significant change in the receipt of feedback before and after the implementation of the method from 20.8% to 66.7%. Conclusion: The OMP method proved to be efficient in providing adequate feedback to residents in the MEJC emergency department.
