RESUMO:

The aim of the present study was to systematize a "Guide Model of the Mammary Physical Examination in the Laboratory of Clinical Skills of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte" for the discipline of Oncology (MIC0064) offered to the students of the UFRN Medical Course. The project was approved by the Ethics and Research Committee of the University Hospital Onofre Lopes, under number CAAE95004318.7.00005292. The target audience consisted of 41 students enrolled in the curricular component and during the course the following steps were performed: (1) Reception of the students and application of the TCLE; (2) Application of the diagnostic questionnaire; (3) Systematic and interactive theoretical and practical guidance on how to perform the physical examination; (4) Practical guidance for performing the mammary examination on the manikin; (5) Application of the evaluation questionnaire after class; (6) Discussion and evaluation of the activity with students; (7) Evaluation of the questionnaires and (8) Analysis of the results. The mean grade of the evaluation of the pre-intervention questionnaire was 4.1 (± 2.06), the lowest grade being equal to zero and the highest grade. 8 After class, the average grade was 8.71 (± 1, 3), being the smallest note 6 and the largest 10. A difference between the means of 4.6 points was identified (test T, p <0.0001). Considering the evaluation criteria, it was verified that the palpation of the breast was the most accomplished procedure among the students (87.8%), while the conversation with the patient (9.8%) and the dynamic inspection (4, 9%) were the least accomplished items. On the other hand, after the class all the students described the palpation of the breast and the static and dynamic inspection as examination procedures. Meanwhile, the conversation with the patient continued to be the least performed
