RESUMO:

The preceptory    is a new modality of teaching in the scenario of health education, in which the professional of the service assumes the role of welcoming the student and inserting him in the real world of work. In order to understand and reflect on this subject, the present study was carried out in order to identify the potentialities and challenges of nurses 'preceptors' performance in undergraduate nursing courses. The study was descriptive and qualitative, carried out in May and June of 2018, developed at the Onofre Lopes University Hospital (HUOL), located in Natal / RN. The population was composed of 21 nursing assistants who perform the preceptory function of undergraduate nursing students from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). For the empirical research, a semi structured script was used, composed of 14 open questions, divided in two parts: the professional characterization and difficulties experienced by the nurses in the exercise of the preceptory and their potentialities. It counted with the consent of the institution where the study was developed and the approval by the Research Ethics Committee of UFRN, according to CAAE n ° 80784017.7.0000.5292. The analysis of the content made possible the grouping of results into four a posteriori thematic categories: potentialities, difficulties, suggestions and experiences. From which it can be inferred that the conception of training the student for the labor market is challenging, however, has been consolide Ting and revealing a perspective of change in the teaching and training molde of health professionals.
