RESUMO:

The Medical Residency Program is a teaching modality intended for physicians, in the form of a specialization course, characterized by in-service training, on a 60-hour weekly basis, working in health institutions, whether university or not, under the guidance of professionals physicians of high ethical and professional qualification, being recognized as the best way of insertion of medical professionals in professional life, under supervision, and qualification in a specialty. The implementation of the Direct Observation Procedural Skills (DOPS) evaluative tool in the Anesthesiology Medical Residency Program of the Onofre Lopes University Hospital (HUOL) aims to evaluate the resident in a more integral way, based on skills and competences, contributing together with other forms of evaluation to broaden the vision on the advances and individual fragilities of the same ones. It is an exploratory, prospective and descriptive study, carried out with 11 PRM residents and 15 preceptors. . Three stages were carried out, the first stage being the definition of the instrument for evaluation and planning of the teacher training course / preceptor second stage. It consisted of two training workshops for teachers / preceptors of the PRM in Anesthesiology; and the third, the residents' assessment. The workshops were developed with active teaching-learning methods, such as videos with simulations of the actual work scenarios in the institution followed by reflection and discussion in groups, which allowed the standardization of the areas considered essential to be evaluated by the DOPS. A total of 10 residents were evaluated, being three of the first year, three of the second year and four of the third year, totaling 39 evaluations. Only one resident has not been evaluated for reasons of temporary withdrawal from the PRM. Most residents were evaluated more than once in different procedures, where most residents were at an above-expected level in overall domain performance. It was interesting to note more weaknesses evidenced by the DOPS tool in the less complex procedures; probably misrecognized that they have already achieved the skills required in such procedures. The majority of the self-assessments were in agreement with the assessments made by the preceptors, with more reflections and notes to be modified by the evaluated students. Up to the present moment we have been able to notice the great adhesion of the residents who started to request the evaluations in their procedures, emphasizing the importance of the immediate and individualized feedback.
