RESUMO:

currently in the eighth period of the medical course, is peculiar in that it is an eminently practical approach and represents the student's encounter with a specialty that has not been approached during the previous periods due to its specificity. Therefore, monitoring in the Ophthalmology discipline emerges as a way to optimize the learning of this area of medical knowledge, as well as facilitating the contact between the academics, the teaching staff and the Onofre Lopes University Hospital (HUOL) service. In this context, it is intended, with the monitoring project, to stimulate the student who develops the activity of monitor regarding the teaching abilities and to promote the interdisciplinarity in the development of the competences of the students of the medical course. Selected through a selection process, the monitors will receive practical and theoretical training to sediment and refine the skills that will be developed in different scenarios: skills training workshops using the Skills Laboratory; clinical case sessions; green areas for the clarification of doubts; the OSCE (Objective Strutured Clinical Examination) organization. Finally, it is also expected that a manual on ophthalmologic clinical examination will be prepared, as well as a practical guide on the main ophthalmological diseases with a focus on primary care.
