RESUMO:

Acute renal injury is a complex nosological entity, often associated with multifactorial etiology, with a great clinical impact when we analyze aspects related to its incidence, forms of presentation and morbimortality, besides being characterized as independent risk for mortality and prolonged hospitalization. Renal replacement therapy is defined as a treatment method aimed at the plasma clearance of nitrogenous waste resulting from organic metabolism, maintenance of electrolyte and acid-base balance, in addition to removal of excess fluid.

The critical patient in renal replacement therapy usually presents in poor clinical conditions, which makes them very susceptible to the complications and complications from the dialysis. Adverse events and negative outcome during treatment are often related to the patient, the equipment and the performing professional.

Considering the clinical vulnerability, the potential risks and the need for qualified professionals to attend these patients, a UFRN extension course was held in May / 2018, with 30 vacancies offered through the academic portal (SIGAA) directed to Physicians, Nurses and graduates of the mentioned courses. The training was planned through theoretical and practical modules, for a total workload of 10h. We use traditional expository classes and active teaching methodology through Team Based Learning, simulations, equipment workshop and OSCE (objective structured clinical examination). We obtained 33 participants with 73.3% attendance at the beginning of the course. Nurses and Nursing graduates were the majority present with 93% of the enrolled, being 08 graduates and 24 Nursing students, in addition to only 01 medical student. We submit apprentices to an online assessment with 10 closed-ended questions of multiple choice between modules and set an average of 70% as an objective, with an average of 82.2% being achieved. During the pratical Module we performed an OSCE with two stations that simulated the most common adverse events (AS) during renal replacement therapy in the intensive care unit, we observed a general average of 80.35% and only one student with 50.85%. We conducted after the event online satisfaction survey offering space for suggestions, with 80% of the participants satisfied or very satisfied about the event held.

We understand continuing education as a valuable resource in teaching in the different professional areas according as the acquired or updated knowledge generates immediate applicability, improving the skills of the professionals involved, bringing direct improvements to society and patient safety by establishing good care practices.
