RESUMO:

The health professional who performs pre-natal care must assure
quality assistance in health and a strong bond with the patient through
a multi-professional team, favoring a frank dialogue with sensitivity
and openness to perceive the anxieties of the pregnant woman.
Literature is abundant in exemplifying how much communication is
essential in the processes of health promotion and disease prevention,
increasing patient satisfaction and adherence to treatment. HIV pretest
counseling is one of the strategies used by the national STDAIDS
program to qualify and broaden access to HIV diagnosis and is
found in protocols and guidelines of the Ministry of Health.
At the time of the HIV pre-test counseling, competent communication
skills assist in identifying the needs of the patient, the access to the
diagnosis and treatment, and favors the management of the sociocultural
and emotional aspects involved. The present project aimed to
promote the development of communication skills in medical students
of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) within the
rotation of Obstetrics/Gynecology II, through an individualized
analytical observational study, which used a comparative analysis of
the student performance before and after the intervention that
prompted the development of this skill.
