RESUMO:

From the expanded understanding of the concept of health, several strategies are being implemented both in the training and in the practice of health professionals. Then emerges the interprofessional health education (IPE), considered an innovative strategy capable of preparing students and professionals to develop collaborative practices in order to guarantee the integrality of health care. However, there are still many challenges to be overcome, ranging from curricular issues to new work interactions, exchange of experiences and knowledge, respect for adversity, and especially in relation to greater integration with the medical team. In this sense, the purpose of this study is to understand the residents' perception about interprofessional work between medical and multiprofessional residencies in a maternity teaching hospital. This is a descriptive, exploratory and qualitative type of case-study. The project was approved by CEP-UFRN. The research participants were 20 medical and multiprofessional residents who have been working for at least 6 months in a teaching hospital, ant that is the inclusion criterion. Data collection was performed from December 2016 and January 2017. To characterize the study population, an identification form was used. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, semi-structured interviews were carried out using a previously constructed script. The interviews were transcribed, organized and codified in order to group the reports that present similarities between opinions and perceptions and were analyzed through the categorical theme proposed by Bardin. After the analysis of the material, four categories emerged: concept of interprofessional work, interprofessional approach between medical and multiprofessional residences, contributions of interprofessional work and challenges of interprofessional practice. The results suggest that interprofessional experiences occur between medical and multiprofessional residents at the study place, but these still develop in a punctual and unsatisfactory way. Thus, there are challenges to overcome in order to effect collaborative practice between them so that the residencies are able to qualify health professionals capable of acting interprofessionally, aiming at the complehensive health care of individuals, families and the community.
