RESUMO:

Objectives: The objective of this study was to describe the implementation process of the competencies related to the area of ophthalmology in the medical course of EMCM, as well as to evaluate, from the perspective of the students, this implantation. METHODOLOGY: From the pedagogical meetings of planning curricular components, in the form of "Modules", the insertion of the teaching of ophthalmology began to be delineated being based on the learning objectives, in the sense of choosing in which of the axes (Tutorial, Skills, Community) of course activities would be entered. At the end of this period, a questionnaire was applied to the students of the first and second class of the course, in order to evaluate their perception in several aspects of the process. RESULTS / DISCUSSION: Ophthalmology activities were developed in the following Modules: Birth, Growth and Development and Perception, Consciousness and Emotion (III semester), Fever and Inflammation (IV semester), Women's Health (V semester) and Module We found that 81% of the students in the first class of the course and 62% of the students in the second group agreed that there was a good integration of the subjects related to ophthalmology with the Modules and developed in the PBL. positive aspects that influenced their learning in this area, emphasized the dedication of the teachers, the theoretical-practical approach of the themes and the good integration already reported. As negative points for learning, they emphasized the reduced number of practical activities and the limited time available for Ophthalmology. Fundoscopy and evaluation of the cranial nerves were the activities that pointed out as the most difficult and consequently suggest that they be revisited in other semesters. Finally, the great majority of the students considered their learning in ophthalmology to date satisfactory. These data enable reflection on what was proposed in the Pedagogical Project of the Course for the teaching of ophthalmology, improving the positive points and stimulating the revision of the fragile points, aiming at improving the teaching / learning in this area for the general practitioner.
