RESUMO:

INTRODUCTION: The deepening of the topics related to terminality and the acquisition of skills in the area of Palliative Care is a necessary demand in the training of medical graduates. Based on this issue, we aim to improve, in the future, the care of patients in Palliative Care, which, in the present day, are mostly suffering from a poor attendance, according to international data referring to Brazil. OBJECTIVES: To elaborate minimum competences for the teaching of Palliative Care in the graduation of medical courses. METHODOLOGICAL COURSE: The research was delineated as a descriptive and qualitative study of the case study type. Firstly, a documentary analysis was carried out in the national and international literature regarding Palliative Care competences for undergraduate education; which generated a framework of competencies that was submitted, together with other questions, along the lines of a semi-structured interview to the analysis of eight professionals with training in palliative care, among them physicians, nurse, psychologists and occupational therapist. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: From a analysis of the thematic category content, 6 categories emerged (Basic Principles of Palliative Care, Management of Symptoms, Ethical and Legal Issues, Communication and Psychosocial and Spiritual Aspects, Teamwork and Challenges for The Implementation of the Proposal); as well as 12 subcategories and 168 units of analysis, which served to suggest, in terms of content, minimum competences for undergraduate education, and to detail the main obstacles to the implementation of these competences at the level of universities. CONCLUSION: We hope that this new suggestion of minimum competences will serve as a parameter for the implantation of future competences at the national level, promoting, finally, the diffusion of Palliative Care in graduation through the extension of compulsory and optional disciplines in Brazilian universities.
