RESUMO:

The undergraduate courses in medicine must take ownership of the constant transformation needs of the Unified Health System (SUS) and train physicians capable of offering a quality service in the health care of the population towards the integrality. The universal access to health services in the national territory, guaranteed by the Federal Constitution of 1988, is often hampered by the lack of interest of the majority of doctors in working in the interior and in the periphery of the big cities. In the Northeast, the ratio of physicians per thousand inhabitants is 1.2 and it is verified that about 80% of these professionals practice their work in the capitals, making the interior an environment with a high rate of professional shortage. Understanding this difficulty of providing and fixing professionals in the country's interior, in 2013 the Medical Program (PMM) was structured in three axes: i) emergency medical care; Ii) investment in the infrastructure of the basic health services network; And (iii) medical training (undergraduate and residential programs). In this context, the Multicampi School of Medical Sciences of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (EMCM / UFRN) was created. Believing that the approximation of medical schools to the interests of the population contributes to the formation of physicians with high social commitment,. This research aims to know the profile of the students of the medical school of the Multicampi School of Medical Sciences of Rio Grande do Norte/EMCM in an attempt of what can subsidize serve as a subsidy for strategies to carry out the construction and reconstruction of pedagogical strategies aimed at the training of physicians in In line with the need for SUS.
