SUMMARY:

This research presents a study of the work, Adeus, adeus, for cello and piano, composed by Walter Smetak in 1948, in memory of Mahatma Gandhi. The main objective is to analyze the work, approaching the context of the composition, as well as the grounding for the performance of this work, intending to demonstrate the interconnection of Mahatma Gandhi's life and work with cultural aspects of the city of Salvador in Bahia. To do so, an interview was conducted with the musician who interpreted the work, followed by the digitalization of the score for analysis purposes of the work, which presented an ideological and poetic feature, either in the sound treatment, either in the way of organizing the notes in the score, translating the sounds, from the perceptions of sensations, feelings and emotions of the composer, in an attempt to re-signify such human perceptions, aiming philosophical reflections about the development of the individual in his life.
