SUMMARY:

The present research carries out a study on the possibilities of writing and performance of the horn in the dobrado genre, initially sought to understand how the horn is determined and perceived in the traditional music band in authors such as Brum (1980), Carvalho (1994) and Adle (2006). What are the cultural and technical circumstances involved in writing for this instrument in the dobrado, in Dantas (2015), and its technical-interpretative possibilities. Then, a consultation was carried out with fifteen masters of student bands working in the city of Teresina, Piauí, with the aim of understanding which dimensions the horn is assimilated in this context of music band and folded music, inferring that the use of horn is configured as a central instrument with no variation in functions, but there is a clear manifestation of new performance perspectives in the dobrado genre, due to the need to introduce challenges to horn players to encourage studies of the instrument and permanence in the band. The methodology of the proposed use of the horn in addition to the central function starts from the identification of the four functions of singing, counter-song, center and bass, and their relationship in the instrumentation in relation to the horn, in the identification of melodies that correspond to the idiomatic aspects correlated to the horns. The proposal is supported by authors such as Sotelo (2008) in the use of his table of technical parameters to identify the limitations of writing, technique and general advice of the performance process and Campos (2015) in the adaptation of a technical sheet, as a resource and suggestions for the use of the horn in the dobrado, as a framework to guide aspects of the historical perspective, technical considerations and the possibilities of writing for the performance of the horn. At the end, extra horn parts from Batista de Melo, Avante Camarada, Dois Corações and Barão do Rio Branco adapted for use with the original arrangements are proposed as a possibility of writing and performing the horn in the music band.
