RESUMO:

In this research, we address the theme of anxiety in musical performance, a topic that has been widely discussed among researchers of the sub-area of musical performance in recent years. Analyzing the studies related to this subject through the researches already carried out in Brazil and abroad, we proceeded to investigate the possibilities of dealing with anxiety in musical performance. It is important to mention that anxiety is not always a villain, according to Oliveira (2001), the anxiety is a normal and necessary reaction of the organism. This reaction leaves the performer on alert and with increased attention, which can be beneficial for performing a musical performance. For the development of this research, it was defined as General Objective, to investigate the prevalence of anxiety in musical performance; the situations, symptoms and coping strategies used by the students of the School of Music of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (EMUFRN). The research approach adopted was quantitative, however, as the data were collected and analyzed, the development of the quali-quanti approach was developed. The empirical field consisted of 134 students of the Bachelor's and Music Technician courses at EMUFRN. From the application of a questionnaire applied to this cited public, the existence of the problematic researched was identified. The data collection procedures used were: a bibliographical survey on the subject; delimitation of the research universe to the graduation group of the discipline 'preparation for the stage and performance'; application of questionnaires; filming of musical performances and collection of reports of the 25 students participating in the group previously mentioned after exercises of simulations of performances in the classroom. Through the results obtained at the end of this research, it was possible to list the main symptoms, the performance situations provoking greater anxiety among the performers. The coping strategies / performance simulations used by students were listed. These were associated with strategies already developed according to the literature, which led to the suggestion of a list of strategies that can be used by the students in their routines of daily studies / preparation for musical performance.
