SUMMARY:
Biophilic design is an innovative way to create natural environments that improve our health and well-being. The word “biophilic” comes from “biophilia”, which can be defined as the love of life or living systems. In this sense, in an urban world of technology and industrialized architecture, this fundamental connection can occasionally seem almost lost. Therefore, biophilia emerges to rescue natural environments and bring them to spaces built by man. Therefore, this professional master's degree conclusion work contains a technical report and an architectural project. Its objective is to develop a preliminary requalification project for the Alberto Torres State School, located in the city of Natal/RN, focusing on the principles and strategies of biophilic design. The choice of the topic arose due to the proximity of the professional practice carried out by the author with requalification projects, as well as the possibility of working with a real demand, making it possible to meet the current needs of the school. To develop the project, an in-depth analysis was carried out, resulting in a theoretical-conceptual framework on the topic, through bibliographical research and reference studies. The project constraints were developed to present the study universe and target audience, along with the environmental, physical and legal aspects. With the help of the subjects taught in the course to date, the design conception and path was developed, presenting the architectural programming, design concept, studies and simulations through thermal and acoustic comfort strategies and the definition of the architectural design. As this is a dissertation under construction, the result obtained to date is considered a preliminary study, with subsequent conclusion and maturation of decisions possible.
