SUMMARY:

This professional master's qualification work, also constituted in a technical report, consists of a retrofit project, in conjunction with the Civil Engineering duties and knowledge, aiming at the architectural intervention of a building of historical heritage, for institutional use and destined to the Headquarters fron Correios, located in the Ribeira neighborhood, Natal, RN. The project originally from the 1930 was built with the aim of providing its users with convenience and environmental comfort, however with the various reforms over time, these characteristics have been compromised. The present work has the objective of developing a retrofit project for a building of patrimonial value and the study of the rescue of the environmental comfort specificities of the original project design, incorporating fire safety issues. In order to develop the project, a theoretical-conceptual deepening on the theme was initially carried out, through bibliographic research and direct reference studies. Then, the architectural programming was developed, with definition of dilemmas and goals of the project. From this base, and with the help of the curricular components of the course, the design process is being developed and mapped, through various forms of registration, from the initial stages of studies of constraints, design and development of the architectural party. Considering the specific objectives, the work has sought architectural strategies with regard to environmental comfort, regarding natural ventilation and lighting, and acoustics, in its importance for the wellbeing of users, and to improve the performance of tasks, it will also adapt to building accessibility, in addition to issues of updating fire safety systems. The present work is still in the process of technical construction, seeking comfort, convenience and safety, and will have subsequent studies, research of materials, preparation of the architectural project and completion of the technical report.
