SUMMARY:

This Master's degree Qualification work, also constituted in a technical report, consists of an architectural project of a building for Public Institutional use destined to the Headquarters of the environmental agencies of the State of Pernambuco and the city of Recife, with emphasis on the verticalized structural systems in from the perspective of contemporary wooden architecture. The use of wood in civil construction has undergone advances and improvements with the diffusion of construction systems such as Glued Laminated Timber (GLULAM or GLT) and Cross Laminated Timber (CLT). Allied to a prefabrication process, which guarantees a cleaner, faster and more efficient construction, the design of engineered wood projects has proven to be a solution that solves a large part of the environmental problems caused by Architecture, Engineering and Construction industry. In order to subsidize the development of the project, a theoretical and conceptual deepening on the theme and subthemes related to the nature of the proposal was initially carried out, through bibliographic research and studies of design references of related buildings. Then, architectural programming was developed, with definition of dilemmas and design guidelines. From this base, and with the help of the curricular components of the course, the design process was gradually being developed and mapped, through various forms of registration, from the initial stages of studies of constraints, design and development of the architectural party. Considering the specific objectives, was sought to optimize the design solutions to increase the performance of wooden structures in the face of climatic and environmental conditions in the area of intervention, as well as to develop a proposal that reflects the principles of the institution, through the concepts of sustainability and permeability. The partial results achieved consist of the preliminary study of architecture that responds to the design constraints, the design guidelines and the initial intentions of the concept, reflected in the architectural party adopted. Finally, it is possible to conclude that the issues related to the environment, as well as the structural performance in the use of wood are closely related to the process and to the design decisions, which must take into account the design constraints and the specificities of the material, making it is possible, through appropriate solutions, to achieve success in the construction of verticalized wooden buildings in different contexts of the Brazilian territory.
