BIG AREA: Linguística, Letras e Artes
AREA: Linguística
SUMMARY:

The process of teaching and learning an Additional Language encompasses internal and
external aspects of the learner, which must be considered in the development of didactic-
pedagogical activities. In this sense, understanding the subject's relationship with
language and the processes through which they learn a language can be the necessary
source for better structuring didactic and pedagogical approaches. It is based on this
premise that this research reveals the field of knowledge construction that crosses
Applied Linguistics with an interdisciplinary (Moita Lopes, 2006) and transgressive
(Pennycook, 2006) character, which is not limited by disciplinary boundaries or fields of
study. Thus, this research aims to investigate how the affective dimension is revealed in
discourses about the training of Additional Languages teachers within the scope of the
Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. The research is anchored in the theoretical-
methodological support provided by Bakhtinian theory (Volóchinov, 2017, 2019; Bakhtin,
2003, 2015, 2016) and Systemic-Functional Linguistics (Halliday; Mathiessen, 2014)
regarding the Evaluative System proposed by Martin and White (2005). This is an
interpretative qualitative research (Moita Lopes, 1994; Gerhardt; Silveira, 2009; Creswell,
2014), and the corpus of analysis was generated from the memorials produced by
teachers in training in Additional Languages for the Stage 2 discipline, in the semesters of
2022.2 and 2023.1. The memorials will be analyzed based on the methodological steps
proposed by Volóshinov (2017) and linguistically based on the Attitude subsystem, of the
Evaluative System, which expresses evaluations of affection, judgment and appreciation in
speech. The analysis procedures are in the process of consolidation, however, it is
expected to emphasize the role that affectivity plays in the training of Additional
Languages teachers in training, and how it can be an ally in their didactic-pedagogical
practices.
