SUMMARY:

The adolescence phase is, sometimes, decisive for the formation of a critical subject capable of making conscious choices and seeking answers to their health questions. This research arose from the need to address themes related to the health of adolescent students through reading and writing practices, based on the use of the health booklet and through the implementation of a literacy project. In this sense, this study investigates the contributions of the application of this project to the improvement of health literacies of adolescents in the eighth year of Elementary School, including their writing practices of discursive genres. Theoretically, the studies of literacy as a social practice by Kleiman (1995), Oliveira (2008), Street (2014) were adopted as references, focusing on critical literacy by Luke; Fribody (1997), Freire (2001), health literacy by Adams et al. (2009), Rotman et al. (2002), as well as the studies that guide the development of Literacy Projects (Oliveira; Tinoco; Santos (2011), Santos (2014), as well as subsidies from the Theory of Discursive Genres by Bakhtin (1997). In methodological terms, the investigation is of the action research type and follows the molds established by Thiollent (1986). Its implementation is based on the qualitative approach of data according to Bodgan; Biklen (1994) since is interested in the meanings attributed by the participants in relation to the actions experienced during the project in question. The results point to the relevance of the implementation of the Literacy Project in order to improve the students' performance in textual production, as well as to the possibility of the adolescent student, based on the proposed studies, getting able to take better care of themselves and, consequently, seek protection and assistance measures in order to avoid possible health problems.
