SUMMARY:

The televised political interview, is a kind of discourse of institutional negotiation of divergences of views, between politicians interviewed and the audience of voters, represented by interviewers. In this study, we examine the dialogical argumentation in this genre, an arena, in which expectations of exemption, impartiality and rationality operate, to inform the audience and guide the deliberation of the electorate. Framed within the informal logic, and institutionalized, both by the state concession for broadcasting, and by the norms and ethics of journalism, this dual institutionality produces the expectations that characterize the stability and conventionality of the interview genre. This study focuses on analyzing how political argumentation develops in a controlled situation, different from free discursive debates or monologues. Our theoretical architecture is based on the foundation of Adam’s ATD (2011, 2022) and includes the contributions of pragma-dialectics in the investigation of devices and anomalies in dialogical argumentative interactions. Thus, our primary objectives are to observe, identify, describe, categorize, interpret and analyze: (i) the orientation and the argumentative view (DUCROT, 1981) of the text plan and the textual structure superenunciativa (ADAM, 2022) and the adherence of the interviewee in the thematic project; (ii) premises, points of view and illocutionary acts (AUSTIN, 1962; SEARLE, 1969) encapsulated in the thematic questions; (iii) violations of pragma-dialectic rules (EEMEREN and GROOTENDORST, 1992), the maxims of Grice (1989) and the relevance of Sperber and Wilson (1986), which translate fallacies, defective conditions and rhetorical perfidy (MARDEM and RODRIGUES, 2023); (iv) management strategies of (GOFFMAN, 1956, 1967) of the interviewee; (v) textual, interactional (KERBRAT-ORECCHIONI, 1990-1994) and multimodal devices (LEEUWEN and KRESS, 1996), engendered in perfidious tactics. Our iterative-spiral methodological approach employs the abduction of Peirce (1997) and the indicial paradigm of Ginzburg (1989) to infer hypotheses generating triads of hypothesis-objective-question, which connect preliminary evidence with teleological objectives, triangulating theories, hypotheses and data. This process precedes our literature review, which departs from ATD, to integrate other theories. The iterative validation of the hypotheses, within the triangulation of Denzin (1978) and Flick (2009), allows us the coexistence of our empiricist claim, according to Hume (2004), along with a graphorrizomatic approach, for the packaging of dynamic data. This model allows a modular approach, avoiding taxonomic rigidity, supporting interdisciplinarity, while refuting epistemic anarchy. The results suggest that the textual structuring of the interview impacts the fluidity and limits the rhetorical improvisation of the interviewee, ensuring a minimum rational coercion, which enables the negotiation of differences of opinion. The thematic blocks encapsulate criticism and points of views, arguing in question form. The questions seem to induce a defensive and reactive posture in the interviewee, although this does not guarantee the maintenance of the soundness and argumentative reasonableness of the interviewee who, despite the superenunciator strategies, vastly insists on unfounded denials, techniques of non-response, and non-assumption of argumentative responsibility. In addition, the preliminary results point to an enunciative posture of the interviewee with broad recurrence of argumentative fallacies, pervasive rhetorical maneuvers, attacks on the faces, explicit perfidious argumentation and intense predominance of pernicious enthymemes.
